Swap & Save: How SLC is Helping Residents Go Electric with Lawn Equipment

by Clayton Morgan

Spring is just around the corner, and for Salt Lake City residents, there’s a fresh reason to get excited about yardwork. The city is launching a brand-new exchange program, making it easier—and much more affordable—to swap out your old gas-powered landscaping equipment for cleaner, quieter electric alternatives.

Starting April 3, all you need is proof of address to apply for special vouchers. These vouchers are designed to significantly lower the cost of transitioning your yard tools, helping you make the switch in a way that’s good for both your wallet and the environment.

  • Lawn Mowers: If you recycle your old gas mower, you’ll receive a $299 voucher toward a new electric model. Not ready to recycle? You can still get a $159 voucher for a brand-new electric mower.
  • Handheld Tools: Chainsaws, trimmers, and leaf blowers are also included. Recycle your old gas-powered tools and claim a $149 voucher, or receive $79 if you’re buying new without recycling.

Why make the switch? Gas-powered landscaping equipment is not only noisy, but it also contributes to air pollution. Electric tools are quieter, easier to maintain, and better for the planet. Plus, with these generous vouchers, there’s never been a better time to upgrade your yard routine.

Ready to swap and save? Mark your calendar for April 3, gather your proof of address, and take advantage of this fantastic program. Your neighbors—and the environment—will thank you!
